OTHER WORLDS
Soho galleries April 26 - May 14 2006

This exhibition was inspired by a trip to Pazagonia in Southern Chile and Argentina in January 2005.
An overwhelming sense of wildness prevails in this place of isolation where massive glaciers and ice floes mirror the needle tip peaks of the mountains and giant Condors soar. It is a, place of mythical proportions from the ponderings of Darwin who initiated his Origin of Species here to the fervent ruthlessness of Magellan who found the passage through the network of fjords in Punta Arenas. This allowed ships to safely avoid the treacherous Cape Horn and instigated the beginning of the end for the indigenous people of the area whose own stories of survival in this land are awesome and brave.

It is a place of imaginings that feels so far away from the rest of the world that the name it has been given, EI Fin del Mundo, "the bottom of the world", seems very apt. It is a
place that conspires to create legends from the last bank that was robbed in Rio .
Gallegos by Butch Cassidy to the Milodon Cave where skin believed to belong to this giant prehistoric animal was found. Where wild guanacos and goucho cowboys/. roam freely about the plains and the wildest wind on Earth terrorises the landscape during the summer months. It is these wanderings that I have painted about, the legends, the people, the land, the magic and finally the romance that a glimpse into Buenos Aires revealed on my way home.
