"Red Fred"
Launched during A Dog's Night Out

A children's picture book Red Fred, written and illustrated by Annette Lodge, published by Margaret Hamilton Books, Australia.

I began writing about Ted, my dog, in my head on our morning walks around Lovett Bay. I made up a rhythm and a rhyme as I went along, but generally, I forgot each bit from one day to the next. Gradually, some words stuck and developed into a story about a day in the life of Ted, who is funny, exuberant and wise beyond his five years. When finally, I wrote the words down, it seemed that a lengthy, simple poem had materialized which, on its own meant nothing without pictures.

So, paintings about Ted's day ensued and the result is RED FRED, a 32 page picture book for children, published by Margaret Hamilton Books for Scholastic Australia, launched at the exhibition on 23 October 1999.
